Australian Fashion Week is Australia’s biggest fashion event, showcasing the latest collections from the industry’s biggest names. I began my journey in the fashion industry by assisting as a volunteer for multiple shows, contributing to a seamless execution and event.

As a volunteer, I assisted at a number of shows, including Michael Lo Sordo, Yousef Akbar, Mariam Seddiq, Alex Higgins, and Wackie Ju. My primary responsibilities included welcoming industry guests and assisting front of house to ensure a positive and harmonious experience for attendees. Working back of house, I also prepared designer garments for show and dressed models for quick changes, helping to maintain an ordered space and presentable garments for show. Additionally, I helped in runway set up and stage preparation, ensuring shows were timely and in meticulous condition.

Throughout my time as a volunteer, I got first hand experience in the ins and out of the biggest fashion event of the year. The fast-paced nature allowed me to contribute to the smooth flow of each show while growing skills in teamwork and collaboration under pressure. Simultaneously, I learnt fashion styling and garment preparation, such as steaming and ironing, and got a hand in event coordination.

Overall, I contributed to the success of several high-fashion shows, providing valuable support to designers and the event as a whole.
